Since August 1, Georgia has stopped exporting and re-exporting American cars to Russia and Belarus. The ban for European cars will take effect from September 26. This was reported by Kommersant with reference to the Georgian edition of Business Media, which referred to the tax service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
The measure was introduced in accordance with the 11th package of EU sanctions, according to which it was forbidden to import cars with an engine capacity of more than 1,900 cubic cm (1,9 liters ), as well as electric and hybrid cars to Russia.
Passenger cars are Georgia's third largest export commodity to Russia. In the first six months of 2023, 3,786 cars worth $53 million were transported to Russia.
During this period, the volume of car exports in this direction increased by 274% in annual terms, Business Media notes.
