The digital ruble may provoke an increase in credit rates

Since August 15, Russian banks have started conducting real operations with the digital ruble, Izvestia reports. This may contribute to the fact that the Bank of Russia will accumulate significant amounts of funds, as a result of which it will actually become the largest supplier of client money for banks, says Valery Piven, Managing director, head of the group of ratings of financial institutions of ACRA.

– There is certainly a certain risk that the system will begin to lose liquidity, but it is difficult to fully predict the consequences of this now, – the expert added. – On the one hand, banks can make conditions more attractive for depositors and depositors, which can lead to the fact that conditionally "free" sources of replenishment of the resource base will practically begin to disappear.

It is planned to test basic operations: opening a digital account, replenishing it, paying for goods and services in digital rubles, transfers between individuals by phone number, obtaining information about the balance and a list of operations on a digital account, Sinara Bank said. Participants of the pilot will be able to pay with a new form of national currency in 30 retail outlets located in 11 cities of Russia.
